Knowledge panels
A knowledge panel is the information box Google shows for people, places, organizations and things in its Knowledge Graph. Google says panels are generated automatically from various sources across the web, updated as information changes, and can be influenced by verified entities suggesting edits and by user feedback. You cannot pay for or directly create one.
What is a knowledge panel?
Google describes knowledge panels as information boxes about entities in the Knowledge Graph, meant to give “a quick snapshot of information on a topic based on Google’s understanding of available content on the web.”[1] Officially documented
Where does the information come from?
“Knowledge panels are automatically generated, and information that appears in a knowledge panel comes from various sources across the web.” Google may combine data from partners on topics such as movies or music with open web sources, and some information may come from verified entities who suggested edits.[1] Officially documented

How can you influence a knowledge panel?
- Claim it if Google offers the option (how to claim).[3]
- Suggest edits once verified, or send feedback if not.[4]
- Fix the sources: correct your entity home, social profiles, directory listings and, where appropriate, Wikidata. Practitioner practice
- Add structured data: Organization markup can influence the logo and other details Google shows.[5] Officially documented
Why might there be no panel?
Google has to be confident an entity exists and that it has enough reliable information about it. Newer or less-covered entities often have no panel, or one only for exact-name searches. Practitioner practice Building independent coverage, not markup alone, is usually what changes this.
Frequently asked questions
Can I create my own knowledge panel?
No. Google generates panels automatically. You can claim an existing one and suggest edits, and you can improve the information Google finds about you.
How do I remove wrong information?
If you have claimed the panel, sign in and use Suggest edits. Otherwise use the Feedback link on the panel and fix the source pages that contain the error.
Why does my business show a Business Profile instead?
Local businesses usually appear through Google Business Profile, which the owner verifies and edits directly.
