Measuring entity SEO
Measure entity SEO with a small set of repeatable checks: whether a knowledge panel or Business Profile appears for your name and is accurate, whether the Knowledge Graph Search API returns your entity with the right type, how branded queries perform in Search Console, whether structured data is valid, and whether AI answers describe you correctly. Log results monthly.
Which metrics matter?
| Metric | Tool | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Knowledge panel present and accurate | Google Search, private window | Practitioner practice |
| Entity returned with correct type and description | KG Search API[1] | Officially documented |
| Branded query clicks and impressions | Search Console Performance report, query filter[2] | Officially documented |
| Structured data valid, no errors | Rich Results Test, URL Inspection[3][4] | Officially documented |
| Entity pages indexed | Page indexing report[5] | Officially documented |
| Local profile views and actions | Business Profile performance | Officially documented |
| AI answers accurate and citing you | Manual prompt panel; AI performance reports | Practitioner practice |
What is a monthly routine?
- Search your brand, key people and products; screenshot panels and the first page.
- Run the same KG API queries; note IDs, types, descriptions and changes.
- In Search Console, filter queries containing your brand name and compare with last month.[2]
- Check enhancement and indexing reports for entity pages.
- Ask AI assistants a fixed list of questions about your entity; log errors and sources.
- Record every fix you made so changes can be linked to causes.
What should you not measure?
- Salience scores as a KPI; they come from a separate product (entity salience).
- KG API resultScore as a ranking metric; Google does not document it that way.[1]
- Third-party “entity scores” presented as Google data.

Frequently asked questions
What is the single best entity SEO metric?
Accuracy of what searchers see: whether your panel, Business Profile and AI answers state the right facts about the right entity.
How fast do entity changes show up?
It varies. Structured data can be picked up at the next crawl, while knowledge panel changes depend on Google's sources and review.
